Special Registration Requests
Please see the Academic Calendar for important dates relative to registration and fee assessment.
Designate a course as Pass/Fail
Register for the course to secure your seat.
Fill out the pass/fail section of the form.
- Turn in the completed form to the Office of the Registrar before the 10th week of the semester.
If you later wish to convert your pass/fail into a grade, please submit a
Pass/Fail Conversion Form 
to the Office of the Registrar before the
2nd week of the
following semester.
Audit a class
Have your instructor sign the form and check the box for Audit.
If you are an undergraduate, be sure to put your current Registration or Add/Drop PIN on the form. (If you need your RDA PIN, please follow Step 2 of the instructions on the
How to Register page.) The Office of the Registrar will not be able to register you for the course if your RDA PIN is not on the form or is invalid when the form is turned in.
Turn in the completed form to the Office of the Registrar before the end of the 4th week of the semester.
Courses which require the permission of the instructor
You will need the permission of the instructor to register for a course if:
the course is full
- you are attempting to register after the 2nd week of classes
- for policy reasons, the instructor requires his or her approval prior to admitting a student to the course
To register for a course requiring the instructor's permission:
Have your instructor sign the form and check the appropriate box.
If you are an undergraduate, be sure to put your current Registration or Add/Drop PIN on the form. The Office of the Registrar will not be able to register you for the course if your RDA PIN is not on the form or is invalid when the form is turned in.
Turn in the completed form to the Office of the Registrar.
Variable Credit Courses
Through the 2nd Week of Registration:
You do not need to come to the Office of the Registrar. When you registered for the course, it defaulted to the lowest applicable credit hours for that course.
If you need to adjust those hours, you can do so through
ESTHER
. You will find the
Adjust Variable Course Hours option on the
Register or Add/Drop Classes page, in the
Registration section.
Weeks 3 & 4 of registration:
Have your instructor sign the form and check the appropriate box.
If you are an undergraduate, be sure to put your current Registration or Add/Drop PIN on the form. (If you need your RDA PIN, please follow Step 2 of the instructions on the
How to Register page.) The Office of the Registrar will not be able to register you for the course if your RDA PIN is not on the form or is invalid when the form is turned in.
Turn in the completed form to the Office of the Registrar.
Past the 4th week of registration:
- Undergraduate students: A petition must be submitted to the Committee on Examinations and Standing, care of the Dean of Undergraduates at ugdean@rice.edu.
- Graduate students: Obtain the appropriate form from your academic department.
