ATTN: ALL STUDENTS (IN ACTIVE, IN-PROGRESS COURSES) **
Last night Rice students should have received an e-mail from the Provost’s Office announcing an extension to Fall 2021 semester Drop and Pass/Fail Deadlines. Both actions (Late Drops, Pass/Fail Declaration) are done online within ESTHER, and please note the following below:
— Drops initiated in ESTHER today (Friday, Oct. 29th) remain unchanged, with the dropped course removed from the student’s academic history and transcript.
— Over the weekend, ESTHER registration will be closed, and students will not be able to drop courses on Saturday or Sunday, Oct. 30th or 31st.
— Beginning Monday, Nov. 1st, ESTHER will reopen with student-initiated drops reflected as Late Drops, with the grade of “W” placed on the student's transcript.
— First semester UG students, will not be able to drop a Fall 2021 course online in ESTHER. A Special Registration Form will be required (no instructor signature required) and must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar by emailing as an attachment to registrar@rice.edu or bringing the form into the office. This will ensure that the course does not display in academic history (no W-grade is applied in this situation).

Please Note: Students who dropped a course this week (on Mon.-Fri. October 25-29) may add the course back if they desire more time to ultimately decide whether to drop the course or not. If you want to do this, please complete a Special Registration Form (no instructor signature required) and e-mail it to registrar@rice.edu by no later than 5:00 pm on Wed., November 3rd. IMPORTANT: Please be advised that if a student opts to re-add a course previously dropped this week, and then “late-drops" it later (on or before the Last Day of Class), the late-drop is reflected with a “W” on that student's transcript.
