Exam Credit

Rice University awards transfer credit for certain college preparatory exams taken before admitted students start their Rice career. Students are required to submit official score reports for any exams they wish to receive credit. These score reports will remain with the Office of the Registrar and become a part of the student's file at Rice University. Rice presently does not place a limit on the number of hours a student may earn via eligible exams.

The following exams are reviewed for transfer credit at Rice (please click the exam name below for more information including Rice's acceptance requirements):

Questions about AP, IB, A-level, and Credit by Departmental Exam can be directed to registrar@rice.edu.

Please Note (special instructions to students with AP exams):

To ensure that your AP scores match up with your Rice academic record, be sure to provide your name, date of birth, and Social Security Number to the College Board in the exact same manner or way you expect to identify yourself on your Rice application.

Students should instruct the College Board to include all exam results (from your high school freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior years), if applicable. Please do not mail your personal copy of your exam results to the Office of the Registrar. Hand-delivered or personal copies of exam results are not considered official and will not be reviewed by Rice.

College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

College Level Examination Credit (CLEP) is not accepted at Rice University.
